U.S. water polo attacker Paige Hauschild, who was injured when the upper deck of a nightclub collapsed on top of revellers in South Korea last Saturday, will be replaced on the Pan American Games roster, the team said on Saturday. Hauschild, who is still recovering from a laceration to her right arm that required stitches, will be replaced by Stephania Haralabidis as the team looks to claim their fifth straight Pan American Games title next week in Lima.

New York Yankees slugger Edwin Encarnacion was placed on the 10-day injured list because of a fractured right wrist suffered in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the visiting Boston Red Sox. Although initial X-rays were negative, a CT scan revealed the break, prompting Encarnacion to become the 24th Yankee to hit the injured list this season.

NBA fans reportedly will see the first showdown for Los Angeles supremacy on Oct. 22 when LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the Lakers meet Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and the Clippers. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the opening date on Saturday, adding the Toronto Raptors will begin defense of their NBA title that day against the new-look New Orleans Pelicans and No. 1 draft pick Zion Williamson.

NFL notebook: Gruden doubtful Redskins will trade Williams

Italy's Camila Giorgi ended American teenager Caty McNally's surprising run with a 7-6(5) 6-2 victory in the semi-finals of the Citi Open in Washington on Saturday. The big-hitting Giorgi, on the comeback trail after wrist and ankle injuries, prevailed in an opening tie break, then dominated the 17-year-old in the second set, winning five games in a row.
