Bears DT Hicks leaves with elbow injury
- Country:
- United States
Chicago Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks left Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders in London in the first half with a left elbow injury and did not return. The team initially ruled Hicks questionable to return, then updated his status to doubtful. Head coach Matt Nagy offered few details afterward but said he didn't think the injury was season-ending.
Hicks, who was active despite battling a right knee injury, was reaching out with his left arm to tackle Raiders running back Josh Jacobs when his elbow was hit from the outside by teammate Khalil Mack's helmet. As Hicks fell to the ground, his elbow joint appeared to be out of place. He remained on the ground with his left arm tucked tightly to his body as trainers came out to tend to him, and then was escorted to the locker room.
Hicks, 29, has one sack and three QB hits through four games this season after totaling 7.5 and 16, respectively, in 2018 en route to his first Pro Bowl selection. He had two tackles before leaving Sunday. In his eight-year career, he has played in 113 of a possible 117 games, making 51 consecutive starts until missing last week with the knee injury.
