The Houston Astros left Wade Miley off the 25-man American League Championship Series roster for the matchup with the New York Yankees after the left-hander experienced major difficulties late in the season. The 32-year-old Miley had a 16.68 ERA in September, allowing 21 runs over 11 1/3 innings. He failed to retire a batter in one start, recorded just one out in another and was pulled after one inning in a third poor outing.

He made one relief appearance against the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Division Series and allowed three runs (two earned) and four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Overall, Miley went 14-6 with a 3.98 ERA in 33 starts.

Miley's absence leaves the Astros without a left-hander for the series against New York, which begins Saturday night in Houston. Right-handers Brad Peacock and Bryan Abreu were added to the roster for the series. Utility man Myles Straw didn't make it.

Peacock, 31, has been bothered by shoulder problems and the issues led to him not being on the ALDS roster. Peacock went 7-6 with a 4.12 ERA in 23 appearances (15 starts) this season. Abreu, a 22-year-old rookie, had a 1.04 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings in seven appearances.

Rookie right-hander Jose Urquidy (2-1, 3.95) is in the mix to be the No. 4 starter should Houston decide it needs one. --Field Level Media
