Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens broke Michael Vick's single-season record for most rushing yards by a quarterback during the first quarter of Thursday night's game against the New York Jets. Jackson entered the contest needing 23 yards to pass Vick's mark of 1,039 yards for the Atlanta Falcons in 2006. He passed Vick with a 5-yard run about 6 1/2 minutes into the game.

Vick congratulated Jackson in a taped video clip that aired on the Fox broadcast. "Lamar, I just want to say congratulations on making history, one of many milestones that you will surpass in your career," Vick said. "Best of luck in everything that you do. You deserve it. Keep up the hard work, and I will always be rooting for you."

Jackson tucked the ball deep into the belly of Mark Ingram II on the record-breaking run before pulling it out, running to the right side and being tackled at the Jets' 6-yard line to increase his total to 1,044. Ingram capped the drive with a 6-yard scoring run on the next play to give the Ravens a 7-0 lead.

Jackson raced for 20 yards on his first carry of the game. A short time later, he gained 2 yards to tie Vick's record. As a team, the Ravens are on pace to set a new single-season mark for total yards rushing. They entered Thursday averaging 200.9 rushing yards per game, which would put them at 3,215 yards over 16 games. The 1978 New England Patriots hold the record with 3,165 rushing yards in a season.
