The Milwaukee Brewers made a move to strengthen their bullpen by acquiring Chicago White Sox closer Joakim Soria for two prospects and cash considerations, both teams announced Thursday.
The 34-year-old Soria has 16 saves this season and 220 in his career.
Milwaukee sent left-hander Kodi Medeiros and right-hander Wilber Perez to Chicago.
Soria, a two-time All-Star, is 0-3 with a 2.56 ERA this season. He hasn't allowed a run in 24 of his past 25 appearances.
Soria is 28-34 with a 2.84 ERA in 613 relief appearances during a career that includes two stints with the Kansas City Royals (2007-11, 2016-17). The right-hander also has pitched for the Texas Rangers (2013-14), Detroit Tigers (2014-15) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2015). This was his first season in Chicago.
Medeiros was a first-round pick (12th overall) by the Brewers in the 2014 draft. This season, the 22-year-old is 7-5 with a 3.14 ERA in 20 appearances (15 starts) for Double-A Biloxi.
Perez, 20, is 5-1 with a 2.01 ERA in eight starts for the Dominican Summer League Brewers. He was signed as an international free agent in July 2017.
