Microsoft on Wednesday announced the acquisition of CloudKnox Security to offer unified permissions management and apply least privilege access across multi-cloud and hybrid environments as organizations adapt to hybrid work, new risks, and business transformation.

As a leader in Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management (CIEM), CloudKnox's platform provides granular visibility, automated remediation and continuous monitoring. It helps organizations right-size permissions and consistently enforce least-privilege principles to reduce risk, and it employs continuous analytics to help prevent security breaches and ensure compliance.

CloudKnox currently supports private clouds based on VMware vSphere and several public clouds like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with feature parity across all of them.

"We saw opportunities to provide even greater value and seamless experience across hybrid and multi-clouds with deeper integrations within the Microsoft ecosystem. By joining Microsoft, we can unlock new synergies and make it easier for our mutual customers to protect their multi-cloud and hybrid environments and strengthen their security posture," said Balaji Parimi, CloudKnox Founder, CEO.

In a blog post on Wednesday, Microsoft said the acquisition enables Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) customers with granular visibility, continuous monitoring, and automated remediation for hybrid and multi-cloud permissions.

The tech giant will share more information as it integrates CloudKnox with its identity, security and compliance solutions including Microsoft 365 Defender, Azure Defender and Azure Sentinel.

Our acquisition of CloudKnox, like our recent acquisition announcements on RiskIQ and ReFirm Labs, shows our focus and execution in acquiring, integrating and expanding the strongest defenses for our customers - from chip to cloud - backed by more than 3,500 defenders at Microsoft and the more than 8 trillion security signals we process every day.
