It is worth mentioning that Wear OS smartwatch owners who choose not to upgrade their device (those who prefer to keep their current Wear OS experience) will continue to get new app experiences and security updates for a minimum of two years from device launch.

Back in May 2021, Google and Samsung announced that they are building a unified platform that will combine the best of Wear and Tizen to deliver faster performance, longer battery life and support for more apps. Now, the search giant has revealed that the new platform will be called the "Wear OS 3" .

"User experience is a top priority for us and we are excited about the interest we've received on Wear OS 3, the new unified platform. For the previous generation of Wear OS smartwatches, a system update to Wear OS 3 will bring the benefit of many of the new experiences, and in some limited cases, the user experience will also be impacted," a Google executive wrote in a post on the Wear OS by Google support page.

The post also mentions the devices which will be eligible for the Wear OS 3 upgrade. These include:

  • Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 GPS
  • Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 Cellular and LTE
  • Mobvoi TicWatch E3 and follow on TicWatch smartwatches

In addition, Fossil Group's new generation of devices which will arrive later this year will also be eligible for the upgrade.
