Nokia, renowned for its industry-leading patent portfolio, has invested a staggering €140 billion in research and development since 2000. With around 20,000 patent families under its belt, including over 5,500 patents essential to 5G, the Finnish firm has firmly established itself as a pioneer in technological innovation.
Additionally, Nokia contributes its inventions to open standards, allowing companies to license and use these technologies without the need to make their own substantial investments in the standards under fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. This approach fosters collaboration, enabling businesses to leverage cutting-edge technologies without the need for substantial individual investments.
