Google is introducing starred on Google Chat on the web - a new feature that helps you track important conversations. It will be available as an additional shortcut in the redesigned navigation panel in Chat.
The new feature lets you star any messages in Google Chat for easy access via the starred shortcut and can be useful when you need to come back to a message later, Google said.
Starred messages are currently available in the web version and will come to mobile in 2024.
To star a message:
- Open Google Chat.
- Open a conversation.
- Hover over a message you want to star.
- Click on the three dot overflow menu
- Select Star
To unstar a message, either do so from the original message or unstar it from the shortcut.
Notably, the option to star messages in Google Chat is unavailable in existing spaces organized by conversation topic (legacy threaded).
Starred messages in Google Chat are currently rolling out to Rapid Release domains and may potentially take longer than 15 days to be fully visible. The extended roll out of the new feature for Scheduled Release domains will commence on November 30, 2023. It will be available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts.
