India-UK Forge Bold New Technology Security Initiative

India and the UK have launched a significant technology security initiative aimed at enhancing collaboration in critical areas such as minerals, clean energy, telecommunications, and emerging technologies. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and British counterpart David Lammy discussed the move during talks in New Delhi, emphasizing its potential to elevate bilateral relations.

India and the UK on Wednesday announced a landmark technology security initiative, designed to facilitate collaboration in key sectors such as critical minerals, clean energy, telecommunications, semiconductors, and emerging technologies. The agreement was reached following extensive talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his British counterpart David Lammy.

The discussion also focused on finalizing a free trade agreement while strengthening cooperation in trade, defense, digital technologies, and human mobility. The Indian delegation raised concerns about pro-Khalistan activities in the UK, while the British side addressed its concerns over Christian Michel, accused in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper case.

Lammy's visit emphasized the importance of the Technology Security Initiative, which will be coordinated by the National Security Advisors of both nations, and aim to maximize synergies in sectors such as AI, quantum computing, and health tech. This initiative is expected to bolster economic growth and deepen bilateral cooperation.
