Spirit Airlines Introduces Premium Travel Options to Boost Revenue
Spirit Airlines announced new premium travel options to address increasing cost pressures and boost earnings. The move aligns with other budget carriers like Southwest, which are tapping into the growing demand for premium travel to enhance profitability. The new offerings will be available for bookings from Aug. 16, 2023.
Spirit Airlines unveiled plans on Tuesday to take advantage of the growing demand for premium travel, aiming to boost earnings and mitigate cost pressures. This news led to a 7% rise in its shares.
The airline is joining the likes of Southwest, which recently announced its own move to premium seating. This trend among budget carriers seeks to capitalize on the booming demand for premium travel. Despite the pressure to discount fares due to an excess supply of seats in the domestic market, premium options remain a profitable venture for many airlines, including Delta and United.
Spirit Airlines will roll out new travel options from premium to basic economy for bookings starting Aug. 16 and launch the options by Aug. 27. Their premium offering, dubbed 'Go Big,' features a large front seat with amenities such as snacks, drinks, and priority check-in.
In total, Spirit plans to introduce four new travel options that include features like priority check-in, extra leg-room seats, and in-flight WiFi streaming access, signaling a shift from its traditional no-frills, ultra-low-cost carrier model.
