Wall Street Surges Amid Bargain Hunting and Dovish Fed Comments
Wall Street's main indexes rose on Tuesday as investors sought bargains following a significant sell-off. Dovish comments from Federal Reserve officials also lifted sentiment. Megacap stocks like Nvidia rebounded, while Apple continued to decline. Positive economic data and company earnings further boosted the market, despite ongoing recession fears.
Wall Street's major indexes rose on Tuesday in a volatile trading session, as investors sought bargains after Monday's sharp sell-off. Investor sentiment was also buoyed by dovish rate comments from Federal Reserve officials.
Most megacap and growth stocks, which had collectively lost $200 billion in market value on Monday, recorded gains. Nvidia rebounded by 2.3%, while Apple extended its decline, falling another 1.9% after Monday's nearly 5% drop. This came after Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway cut its stake in the tech giant by half.
Despite recent losses of over 3% in the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite, analysts suggested that buying opportunities are available, especially after a significant sell-off. David Waddell, CEO and chief investment strategist at Waddell & Associates, noted that reduced pressure for margin calls provided room for market gains. Meanwhile, traders are anticipating a 50-basis-point rate cut by the Federal Reserve in September.
