Rossmann Stops Buying Tesla Cars Over Musk’s Trump Support
Rossmann, a major German drugstore chain, will no longer purchase Tesla cars for its corporate fleet due to CEO Elon Musk's support of Trump's presidential campaign. The decision reflects an 'incompatibility' between Musk's statements and Tesla's environmental values. Rossmann will continue using the Teslas it already owns.
German drugstore chain Rossmann announced on Tuesday that it would cease purchasing Tesla vehicles for its corporate fleet, citing CEO Elon Musk's endorsement of U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump as the reason. The chain, one of the largest in Europe, said the decision was effective immediately due to an 'incompatibility' between Musk's statements and the values that Tesla promotes.
Raoul Rossmann, son of the company's founder, emphasized that Musk's open support for Trump—who has infamously labeled climate change a hoax—stands in stark opposition to Tesla's mission of aiding environmental protection through electric vehicle production. Neither Musk, Tesla, nor the Trump campaign had immediate comments on the decision.
In the past, Musk’s positions on various issues have caused companies to withdraw their advertisements from his social media platform X, earning strong backlash from the billionaire. Rossmann, which has over 62,000 employees and more than 4,700 stores across Germany and Europe, noted it would continue to use its existing Tesla vehicles 'for reasons of sustainability and resource conservation.'
The company did not disclose details about the size of its corporate fleet or the number of Teslas in it. Bloomberg reported that Rossmann currently owns 34 Teslas out of a fleet of 800 vehicles.
