Amara Raja Breaks Ground on New Battery Plants, Signs MoUs for EV Collaboration
The Amara Raja Group inaugurated Phase 1 of its battery pack plant and held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Customer Qualification Plant in Telangana. The group also signed MoUs with Piaggio and the state government for further R&D and manufacturing facilities, aiming for a capacity of 16 GWh and 5 GWh, respectively.
The Amara Raja Group inaugurated Phase 1 of its battery pack plant and held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) in Mahabubnagar, Telangana. The CQP will be operational by the next financial year and will produce various cell types for customer testing and validation.
Amara Raja also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited to develop and supply LFP Lithium-Ion cells and chargers for electric 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers. It has also recently signed an MoU with Ather Energy and entered into agreements to localize global LFP and NMC technologies for the Indian market.
Phase 1 of the battery pack plant has a current capacity of 1.5 GWh and will supply Li-ion battery packs to major EV original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and for stationary energy storage. An ultimate production capacity of up to 16 GWh and a Battery Pack Assembly unit up to 5 GWh is targeted with an investment of Rs 9,500 crore.
