Foxconn's Push for Women in Tech Leadership in India
Foxconn is advocating for women employees in India to take on leadership roles in design and technology. With a workforce of 48,000 in India, the company is focusing on creating opportunities for its highly educated women employees. Foxconn, the contract manufacturer for iPhone, is pushing for women employees in India to occupy leadership roles in design and technology sectors, according to a top company official.
The company employs 48,000 people in India, with women making up 70 per cent of the factory workforce and 25 per cent of new hires being married women. Foxconn Chairman Young Liu stated that the company aims to provide more opportunities for women beyond assembly work.
In a significant step, Foxconn inaugurated a women-only residential complex in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, which houses over 18,000 women employees. Foxconn is also expanding its manufacturing footprint in Karnataka with a new mobile plant, and exploring new ventures in electric vehicle production, battery energy storage systems, and the semiconductor industry.
