India is gearing up for a 6G rollout, a move seen as essential for achieving developed nation status, according to Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal. Speaking at a public relations industry event, Mittal emphasized the importance of this technological advancement in driving the country's growth. The government has also introduced a new Telecommunications Act, replacing the 150-year-old Telegraph Act, designed to be relevant for the next 20-30 years.
Mittal highlighted the necessity for policymakers to visit global manufacturing hubs in countries like Vietnam and China. He believes that India can replicate these success stories through the announcement of 12 new industrial cities, expected to be operational by 2047. These cities are part of a strategic plan to enhance domestic manufacturing and overall economic growth.
The Union Cabinet has approved an investment of Rs 28,602 crore for these projects, which will be located in states including Uttarakhand, Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards bolstering India's industrial capabilities and ensuring sustainable growth for future generations.
