The Satcom Industry Association-India (SIA-India) expressed support for SpaceX's recent strategic partnerships with major Indian telecom players Airtel and Reliance Jio. The association believes these collaborations mark a significant step in expanding broadband access across multiple sectors in India.
Anil Prakash, Director General of SIA-India, highlighted the transformative potential of these partnerships. By integrating satellite technology with existing terrestrial networks, sectors such as ports, rural enterprises, and educational institutions could experience improved connectivity. This improvement, in turn, would spur socio-economic growth and foster digital inclusion nationwide, he noted.
These developments come in the wake of SpaceX's agreements with Mukesh Ambani's Jio Platforms and Sunil Mittal's Bharti Airtel to introduce Starlink's satellite broadband services in India. As per IN-SPACe's Decadal Vision, the country's space economy is predicted to soar to USD 44 billion by 2033, with satellite broadband acting as a pivotal component.
