Caller Identity Unveiled: Telecoms Launch CNAP Pilot

Telecom operators are testing Calling Name Presentation (CNAP), which allows incoming calls to show the caller's name, in Haryana. Telecom operators are conducting preliminary tests of the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service in Haryana, allowing users to view a caller's name on incoming calls. The Department of Telecom (DoT) is targeting a nationwide implementation of CNAP by March 31, 2026.

Vodafone Idea has initiated the pilot, with Jio preparing to conduct its own trial in the same region for calls accessed across the country. The DoT is pushing for a full-scale introduction of the CNAP feature throughout India as soon as possible.

CNAP aims to combat fraud and cybercrime. Unlike third-party solutions, it utilizes telecom-verified KYC data, ensuring more accurate and reliable information. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has aligned with the DoT's proposal to enable this feature by default, allowing users to opt-out if desired.
