In a move to enhance its technological capabilities, the West Bengal Police is setting up a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) cell, sources revealed on Friday. The initiative aims to bolster efficiency, transparency, and service delivery through the integration of emerging AI technologies.

Headed by an officer of the rank of Additional Director General (ADG), the AI Cell will serve as the focal point for introducing and governing AI applications within the organization. The team will comprise officers from various ranks, including Inspector General (IG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG), who will coordinate and monitor the unit's projects.

Located at Bhawani Bhavan, the state police headquarters, the cell will operate under the administrative control of Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar. The state government has pledged the necessary financial and administrative support, and the cell will convene bi-weekly to strategize and formulate AI usage policies.
