Tamil Nadu's Minister T R B Rajaa has advocated for AI to be a tool of empowerment, stressing the importance of democratizing access to AI technologies across the state. Speaking at the IIT Madras conclave on Safe and Trusted AI, Rajaa emphasized a human-centric approach with flexible regulations to foster widespread AI involvement.
Rajaa underscored the need for AI to serve every citizen, including rural workers and persons with disabilities, to avoid a collective failure in innovation. He stated Tamil Nadu's goal to evolve from its manufacturing strengths to being an AI hub, supporting MSMEs in innovation and development.
The minister stressed the necessity of R&D funding and policy safety nets for AI researchers to promote a culture of innovation without fear of failure. He highlighted AI's dual nature as an opportunity and challenge, particularly for young people, and called for robust mentoring and clear regulations to harness AI's potential responsibly.
