Shares of Taiwan-based Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp surged by nearly 10% on Monday, following an announcement by U.S. memory chip giant Micron Technology.
Micron declared on Saturday that it had entered a letter of intent to purchase Powerchip's P5 fabrication site located in Tongluo, Miaoli County, Taiwan, for a financial package valued at $1.8 billion in cash.
The acquisition highlights Micron's strategic expansion plan and reflects its commitment to strengthening its position in the semiconductor manufacturing sector.
