eCommerce shows strong growth in Chile
Chamber of Commerce of Santiago highlighted the great changes and advances in digital commerce at the national level.
The Chamber of Commerce of Santiago revealed that the transactions of electronic commerce (eCommerce or Internet purchases) in Chile have continued to increase explosively during the last years; forecasting that in 2018 sales will reach USD 5,000 million, while in 2020 the figures would exceed USD 8,000 million in sales.
The above, in line with the strong trend that exists today to buy through the Internet, leave aside the need to personally attend physical stores.
In addition, e-commerce usually offers more stock and more variety, which also explains the recent increase in its customers.
Even large retail companies in the United States have had to close branches due to the strong competition that currently exists.
Regarding this situation, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago (CCS), Peter Hill, highlighted the great changes and advances in digital commerce at the national level and pointed out that it is not just the purchases made by normal people; Companies are also included.
"(There are) the first signs of a more determined adoption of eCommerce by small businesses, a segment that historically has remained further away from online transactional models. The big companies, meanwhile, having assumed the strategic importance of electronic commerce, are prepared to compete in an increasingly global scenario, "he explained.
The first to join Chilean electronic commerce sector was the retail companies, which to date have been selling for almost a decade on the Internet.
According to a ranking published by La Tercera, the first place in the number of orders, which corresponds to the number of purchases made, is occupied by Mercado Libre.
Recharge Easy and Groupon follow, while the fourth place that accumulates more purchases in the semester is awarded to Falabella.com, which surpasses Ripley and Cencosud, in positions 14 and 18 respectively, with Ripley.cl and Paris.cl.
Another area that has experimented with Internet sales is that of pharmacies, selling first aid items, beauty, and personal care, at the door of the house. Just this year officially debuted the first player in the market in Chile, Farmazon.cl.
