The Indian Railways is planning to pump in INR 1,000 crore to double the capacity of its bottled water brand Rail Neer. The demand for bottled water has increased all over the country which further gets amplified by the rise in temperature.
Rail Neer is a brand which gets profit for the Railways but the focus has not been sufficient towards it. There is much more growth potential in the Brand.
It is run by Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (ICRTC). It has seven plants with the capacity of six lakhs litres per day. The Railway intends to install 11 more plants across the country.
An official said about the plan to invest 1,000 crores. "We hope to increase the revenue from Rail Neer to INR 500 crore in a year or so. It will also be able to make up for the loss of revenue that IRCTC is facing after service charges on tickets sold on the IRCTC website were waived to promote digital payments."
The brand caters to more than 7,000 railway stations and more than 1,000 trains.
