Select grains slip on muted demand

Grains: Weak conditions prevailed at the wholesale grains market during the week as rice basmati and a few other bold grains drifted lower owing to slackened demand against adequate stocks position.

Traders said besides easing demand, ample stocks position on improved supplies from growing regions led to the decline in rice basmati and in some of the other bold grain prices.

In the national capital, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety slipped by Rs 100 each to Rs 7,600-7,700 and Rs 6,700-6,800 per quintal, respectively.

Other bold grains like bajra fell by Rs 70 to Rs 1,350-1,355 per quintal. Maize and barley also shed Rs 20 each to Rs 1,340-1,345 and Rs 1,560-1,570 per quintal, respectively.

Jowar yellow and white, too, dropped by Rs 100 each to Rs 1,700-1,750 and Rs 2,900-2,950 per quintal, respectively.
