G20 chair Brazil says Ukraine, Gaza wars inappropriate topics for finance track
The Group of 20 finance track is "not the most appropriate forum" for the world's biggest economies to resolve differences over the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, G20 chair Brazil said on Thursday after finance leaders failed to agree on a joint statement.
The Brazil chair's summary of the G20 finance ministers meeting in Sao Paulo said in a footnote: "Ministers exchanged views on ongoing wars, conflicts, and humanitarian crises, highlighting Ukraine and Gaza. The Brazilian G20 Presidency noted that the finance track is not the most appropriate forum to resolve geopolitical issues and proposed that these issues shall continue to be discussed in relevant fora and meetings."
