Peru economy expands 2.85% in February, above forecast

Peru's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 2.85% in February from a year earlier, the government's INEI statistics agency said on Monday, marking the second straight month of growth as the Andean economy eyes an end to last year's recession.

The figure was above the 2.10% growth forecast predicted by analysts polled by Reuters. The country's important mining and hydrocarbons sector saw the biggest growth in the month, expanding 15.94%, while the fishing sector shrank 31.26%.
