Russia's aviation authority said on Thursday it was imposing temporary flight restrictions on Kazan airport for safety reasons.

In a statement published on the Telegram messenger app, the watchdog said that flights in and out of Kazan airport were suspended from 1130 Moscow time (0830 GMT) on Thursday.

Similar restrictions have been temporarily put in place in the past at Russian airports due to Ukrainian drone activity.
