European Investment Bank Hosts Sixth Capital Markets Seminar

The European Investment Bank (EIB), in collaboration with the European Commission (EC) and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), successfully organized the sixth Capital Markets Seminar on 5 and 6 June 2024, adopting a hybrid format that facilitated participation from over 400 attendees. This year's seminar emerged as a pivotal platform for gaining insights into EU perspectives on capital markets, attracting a record number of in-person participants, including investors, intermediaries, issuers, and policymakers.

Key highlights of the seminar include:

Focus on Capital Market Innovation: The seminar centered around the theme of EU Capital market innovation, with a particular emphasis on the Capital Markets Union (CMU), sustainable finance, and the integration of digital assets and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in EU Capital Markets.

Inaugural Addresses: The event commenced with addresses from prominent figures such as Pierre Gramegna, Managing Director of the ESM, and Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Budget and Administration, who provided insights into the evolving landscape of European Capital Markets and the role of EU Bonds in strengthening financial resilience.

Sustainable Finance Discussion: EIB’s Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle and Julie Becker, CEO of Luxembourg Stock Exchange, led discussions on sustainable finance, highlighting regulatory innovations and potential solutions to address challenges in delivering inclusive growth and closing the sustainable investment gap.

Investor Panel: A panel discussion titled “Bonds are back: supply, demand, and market dynamics” provided valuable insights into market trends and dynamics in the context of bond issuance and investment demand.

Strategic Overview: EIB President Nadia Calviño outlined the Bank's core priorities and initiatives regarding the Capital Markets Union, highlighting EIB's role as a bridge between capital markets and the real economy.

Panel on Digital Assets and AI: The seminar delved into the integration of digital assets and AI in EU Capital Markets, exploring opportunities and challenges in leveraging technological advancements for market efficiency and innovation.

Issuer Presentations: The conference featured presentations from the EC, the EIB, and the ESM, offering insights into their respective initiatives and contributions to advancing Capital Markets Union objectives.

Closing Fireside Chat: The event concluded with a fireside chat on “Sustainability in Sports,” underscoring the importance of sustainability across diverse sectors, featuring Michael Diederich, Board member of FC Bayern München.
