In a significant move towards ensuring the safety of bullet train operations, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the adoption of an automated rainfall monitoring system. This state-of-the-art system will offer real-time rainfall data through rain gauges equipped with advanced instrumentation.
According to the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which oversees the bullet train project, a specialized track maintenance center will monitor the rainfall data, sharing essential information with the train traffic controller. This data will be crucial for implementing necessary train speed adjustments.
With trains set to run at a high speed of 320 km/h, every minute precaution is being taken to ensure safety. The Railways Ministry has declared that the first phase, a 50 km stretch between Surat and Bilimora, will be completed by August 2026. This project will cover a 508 km route, connecting Mumbai and Sabarmati with stops at 10 stations across Gujarat and Maharashtra.
