Economists Urge Government to Boost Growth Ahead of Modi's First Budget
Ahead of the 2024-25 budget, eminent economists have urged the government to take measures to accelerate economic growth and improve infrastructure. Ahead of the 2024-25 budget, eminent economists have called on the government to adopt measures to accelerate economic growth and improve infrastructure, according to sources.
The meeting, organized by NITI Aayog on Thursday, gathered views and suggestions from economists for Modi 3.0 government's first budget. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X, mentioned that he interacted with economists and appreciated their insightful views on growth-related issues.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Budget for 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha on July 23. The meeting also included Finance Minister Sitharaman, Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh, Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran, and notable economists such as Surjit Bhalla and Ashok Gulati. Discussions also covered the Viksit Bharat @2047 document, aimed at making India a developed nation by 2047.
President Droupadi Murmu previously indicated that the government would introduce historic reforms to expedite economic growth. Sitharaman has already consulted various stakeholders, who have suggested measures like tax relief and addressing inflation to boost consumption. The economy recorded a growth rate of 8.2 percent in 2023-24.
