A landslide caused by heavy rains brought train services on the Konkan Railway route in Maharashtra to a halt on Sunday evening, impacting operations in the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts, according to an official statement.
The landslide occurred just outside a tunnel between Vinhere (Raigad) and Divan Khawati (Ratnagiri) stations around 5 pm, a Konkan Railway spokesperson confirmed. Fortunately, no train was passing through the affected section at the time.
Efforts are currently underway to clear the tracks, with men and machinery, including a JCB and a poclain machine, already on scene. Services are expected to resume within two to three hours. This disruption comes following an earlier week-long interruption due to waterlogging in the Pernem tunnel in Goa, also caused by heavy rains.
