Passengers stranded for more than 15 hours due to a landslide on the Konkan Railway route received some relief on Monday as state transport buses were arranged for their convenience, an official confirmed.
Persistent efforts have been underway to clear the tracks nearly 22 hours after the landslide struck between Vinhere and Divan Khawati stations, spanning Raigad and Ratnagiri districts in Maharashtra, the spokesperson for Konkan Railway stated.
The train services ground to a halt on Sunday, paralyzed by the landslide and heavy rainfall in the affected districts. The Konkan Railway network runs between Roha in Maharashtra and Thokur in Kerala.
"The restoration process is hindered by continuous heavy rains and muck piling on the tracks," asserted the spokesperson.
Some trains were short-terminated at Ratnagiri station, with Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation stepping in to ferry stranded passengers to their destinations, the official added.
Several trains have been cancelled, short-terminated, diverted, and rescheduled since the landslide occurred.
