The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has announced the development of over 8,000 parking spaces across 25 stations on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. The move, aimed at accommodating the expected footfall, includes major parking facilities at Meerut South and Sarai Kale Khan stations.
At Meerut South station, 300 cars and 900 two-wheelers can be parked, making it the largest facility. Sarai Kale Khan station follows closely with parking capacity for 275 cars and 900 two-wheelers. These parking areas will feature electric charging stations to facilitate clean energy adoption and efficient last-mile connectivity.
The NCRTC's Namo Bharat train services aim to connect regional nodes across the NCR with high speed, encouraging public transport usage. The new facilities are expected not only to reduce private vehicle usage but also to lower road accidents and air pollution. An estimated increase in public transport use from 37% to 63% is anticipated with the project's completion.
