Nik Gugger, a member of the Swiss Parliament and President of the Swiss-India Parliamentary Group, has emphasized that India has a significant opportunity to supply high-quality products to Europe. This comes at a time when European nations are wary of an influx of cheap Chinese goods in their markets.

According to Gugger, this is India's chance to showcase its quality products under the 'Incredible India' slogan. He stated, "There is a chance to show the world that we do not need cheap products from other countries and that we have a free trade agreement with them where we want to work together in high quality."

The European Union has expressed concerns over Chinese products affecting local industries, particularly citing electric vehicles, solar panels, and wind turbines. Gugger, currently in India, also discussed the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and four European countries – Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein – signed on March 10, 2024.

"It's a unique free trade agreement between four countries. That means Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway. And this free trade agreement is the first trade agreement that India has with four countries in Europe. This opens a lot of chances for both countries," Gugger stated.

He believes that the agreement will foster cooperation in various sectors, especially healthcare, steel, and dual education. Gugger noted that the close relationship between India and Switzerland has great potential, especially in vocational training, given India's young population.

Gugger also highlighted the 76th year of India-Switzerland bilateral relations, emphasizing the ongoing friendship and the promise of future cooperation. He mentioned that a significant Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement event will take place in Mumbai this Sunday.
