Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday welcomed the Union Budget, which proposes financial assistance for the state in view of its susceptibility to natural disasters like cloudbursts and landslides.
Presenting the budget in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman acknowledged the losses suffered by Uttarakhand due to natural calamities and committed to providing assistance. Cloudbursts, flashfloods, and landslides cause significant damage in the state annually.
In a post on X, Dhami expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Sitharaman for the special assistance package. He emphasized that despite adverse geographical conditions, Uttarakhand continues to progress under Modi's leadership.
The special package, according to Dhami, will prevent disaster-related damages from obstructing the state's development. He also highlighted new employment-generation schemes, agricultural boost measures, and rural connectivity improvements announced in the budget.
Calling the budget historic and inclusive, Dhami said it meets the aspirations of Indians and will propel the country forward. He noted that increased standard deductions will alleviate government employees and pensioners, while the budget's focus on the poor, women, youngsters, and farmers will enrich the lives of the common man.
Dhami pointed out provisions for skill and education loans, industrial parks, and solar energy initiatives that will benefit Uttarakhand. Additionally, assistance for first-time job holders was welcomed by the chief minister.
