India's G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant, emphasized job creation as the primary highlight of the 2024-25 Budget, marking it as progressive and forward-looking. Speaking to ANI, Kant stated, "This budget truly focuses on employment creation not just through specific schemes, but also via sectors like tourism, MSME, startups, and the space sector."
Kant elaborated that urbanization, new industrial corridors, and growth centers in 100 cities will drive job creation. Addressing the middle-class benefits, he noted that the budget provides a tax benefit of Rs 17,500 but should be viewed in its entirety for its economic impact. "If India grows, the middle class benefits," he asserted.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's budget allocates Rs 2 lakh crore for a 5-year package aimed at youth employment and skilling. Additionally, Rs 1.48 lakh crore is designated for education, employment, and skilling this year. Initiatives include a one-month salary provision for first-time employees, EPFO reimbursements for employers, and upgraded Industrial Training Institutes, plus internships in top companies for one crore youth.
