India Seeks Clearer FDI Guidelines for Investments from China
India requires more transparent guidelines for approving Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) from China to expedite the process, as per NITI Aayog vice chairman Suman Bery. The current system of case-by-case review is sluggish, and streamlined policies are essential to attract Chinese investments, despite diplomatic tensions and security concerns.
India needs a 'clearer set' of guidelines for approving Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) from China expeditiously, according to NITI Aayog vice chairman Suman Bery. The current method of case-by-case review is slow.
Bery noted that India scrutinizes FDI proposals from China for security purposes, similar to the United States. 'What is needed, based on experience, is a clearer set of guidelines. Case-by-case review is slow, and we are interested in getting investment from China because it has surplus savings and good technology,' he told PTI.
The pre-budget Economic Survey also suggested seeking FDI from Beijing to boost local manufacturing and tap the export market. However, existing diplomatic difficulties necessitate caution, observed the NITI Aayog vice chairman.
