The Congress on Thursday criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for taking 'zero action' to restart wage growth, which the party claims has led to stagnant wages, stunted consumption growth, and discouraged private sector investment.

According to Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh, the Economic Survey confirmed that real wages have stagnated in rural areas, revealing a significant flaw in the government's economic management.

Ramesh also shared data indicating that real rural wages for men have been stagnant for the past three years. Following the Budget announcement on Tuesday, the Congress stated that the government seems 'blissfully ignorant' of its own statistics, showing stagnant wages amid rising inflation.
