The construction of a new integrated terminal building at Vijayawada Airport in Andhra Pradesh is expected to be completed by June next year. The project, costing Rs 611.80 crore, faced delays due to environmental clearances and natural calamities. It has currently achieved 48.5% physical progress with an expenditure of Rs 279.93 crore.
The new integrated terminal building at Vijayawada Airport is slated for completion by June next year, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu confirmed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The project, estimated at Rs 611.80 crore, received government approval in June 2020. Naidu noted there have been no cost overruns to date.
Delays were primarily caused by late environmental clearances and natural calamities, including COVID-19, cyclones, and heavy rains. The work is expected to complete by June 2025, contingent on necessary approvals and clearance removals.
The project has achieved 48.5% physical progress, incurring Rs 279.93 crore in expenses by June 2024. Additionally, the government approved three greenfield airports in Andhra Pradesh under the Greenfield Airports Policy, 2008.
