A JSW Group-operated tugboat carrying 14 crew members drifted in the Arabian Sea off Maharashtra's Alibag coast due to engine failure on Thursday, a police official reported.
The company confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that rescue operations are ongoing and all crew members are safe.
The boat was traveling from the Dolvi plant near Wadkhal to the Salav unit near Revdanda when the engine failed near Kolaba Fort. Raigad police, coastal police, the Coast Guard, and the revenue department are coordinating efforts to prevent any untoward incident.
JSW's statement detailed that the small carrier vessel faced stormy weather conditions with strong winds and low visibility between Jaigarh and Salav.
The company reassured that there are no casualties, with the crew members remaining safe on board. The vessel is deemed stable, and evacuation efforts are expected to begin by nightfall, contingent on the low tide around 11 pm.
