Police have announced new traffic restrictions and reinforced security along the Delhi-Meerut expressway after a car allegedly hit several Kanwariyas on Saturday. The incident led to the Kanwariyas thrashing the driver and causing a traffic blockade.
According to Ghaziabad Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra, preventative measures have been put in place to control vehicle entry from critical points, including the Kadrabad village of Modinagar to various entry points of Ghaziabad district, extending to the UP-Delhi border up to Dilshad Garden. Civil and traffic police are on heightened alert to enforce the traffic plan, with volunteers from civil societies assisting in monitoring any untoward activities.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Naubahar Singh (40), a native of Muradnagar, was allegedly driving in an inebriated state and on the wrong side of the road, leading to the altercation and subsequent clash with the Kanwariyas. In response to the sensitive situation, two companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed at critical points such as Ganga canal bridge and adjacent areas in Muradnagar for increased security.
