Major Developmental Projects Launched at Paradip Port

The Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various developmental projects worth over Rs 13 crore at Paradip Port in Odisha. Key initiatives include a Trauma and Burn Care Centre and a Water Treatment Plant, aiming to boost infrastructure and service quality.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several developmental projects exceeding Rs 13 crore at Paradip Port Authority (PPA) in Odisha on Monday. Notable among these is the newly constructed Trauma and Burn Care (TBC) Centre at Paradip Port Hospital, which cost Rs 2.90 crore and promises to offer curative and rehabilitative services for trauma and burn victims in the Paradip region.

The Secretary also initiated the construction of a Water Treatment Plant at PPA, a project valued at Rs 10.50 crore. This plant, which will source raw water from the Taldanda Canal, is designed to filter 16 million litres of water per day and is expected to be completed by December 2024. It is set to improve the water infrastructure at Paradip Port and provide quality drinking water to Port Township residents.

During his visit, the Secretary reviewed PPA's operations, interacted with senior officials, and inspected various facilities, including the Mechanized Coal Handling Plant, Twin Wagon Tipplers at JSWPTPL, and KICT silos. His recommendations for system improvements aim to boost productivity, enhance port capacity, and streamline workflows, thus ensuring long-term growth and success for Paradip Port.

Paradip Port, recognized as the highest cargo-handling major port in India, handled 145.38 million metric tonnes (MMT) during the financial year 2023-24. The port aspires to increase its handling capacity to 10,000 MTPA by 2047, aligning with Vision 2047. Private participation and a master plan are being developed to achieve this goal, complementing the ongoing Sagarmala programme and Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030, which aim to significantly enhance port capacities and infrastructure in India.
