Tata International, the global trading and distribution arm of the Tata Group, has announced its ambitious plan to ramp up the production of sustainable leather to 50% within the next four years, a significant leap from its current rate of 27%.

As part of this initiative, the company has introduced Phoenix Leather, an eco-friendly product that falls under its Earthcare Leather range. This innovative material has been developed through a patented collaboration with the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), representing a notable advancement in sustainable leather technology.

Despite challenges in demand following the Covid-19 pandemic, Tata International is optimistic, observing increasing interest from major markets such as the USA, China, and Europe. P Rajasekaran, Business Head - Finished Leather Business, emphasized the importance of sustainable and bio-based leather in their growth strategy. The Earthcare Leather range is produced at Tata International's Dewas facility in Madhya Pradesh, employing over 750 workers.
