July 2024 Coal Production Soars to 74.07 Million Tonnes, Up 6.69% From Last Year

In July 2024, coal production surged to 74.07 million tonnes, marking a 6.69% increase from July 2023. Despite this, production fell 13% from June 2024 levels. The cumulative coal dispatch also saw a rise, reaching 341.61 million tonnes for FY25, showcasing the sector's resilience and efficiency.

Coal production in July 2024 reached 74.07 million tonnes, surpassing the 69.42 million tonnes recorded in July 2023, marking a 6.69% increase. However, production dropped by about 13% compared to June 2024, which saw 84.71 million tonnes.

Coal India's output grew by 2.54% to 55.04 million tonnes in July 2024, up from 53.67 million tonnes a year ago. In June 2024, coal production rose by 14.58% to 84.71 million tonnes from 73.93 million tonnes in June 2023.

June 2024 saw CIL and Captives/Others with an 8.8% and 56.30% increase respectively, producing 63.10 and 16.11 million tonnes of coal. Conversely, SCCL experienced a 2.67% decline, producing 5.50 million tonnes. Cumulative coal production up to July 2024 reached 321.45 million tonnes in FY25, up 9.78% compared to FY24's 292.80 million tonnes.

Coal dispatches rose significantly to 79.54 million tonnes in July 2024, a 4.58% increase from 76.05 million tonnes in July 2023. June 2024 dispatches stood at 87.14 million tonnes, a 111.64% rise from June 2023's 78.05 million tonnes.

CIL and Captives/Others dispatched 65.13 and 16.53 million tonnes in June 2024, representing 6.77% and 46.25% growth. SCCL's dispatches declined by 4.65% to 5.75 million tonnes. Up to July 2024, the cumulative dispatches reached 341.61 million tonnes for FY25, up 7.92% from FY24's 316.54 million tonnes.

As of July 31, 2024, coal stock surged to 86.8 million tonnes, reflecting an annual growth rate of 43.85%. These figures highlight the coal sector's resilience and its commitment to fulfilling national energy demands. The Ministry of Coal remains focused on continued growth and efficiency.
