Indian Tourism Witnesses Remarkable Surge in Early 2024
The Ministry of Tourism has reported a significant increase in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) and Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) in the first five months of 2024. The data shows a 9.1% rise in FTAs and a 22.52% growth in FEEs, marking substantial economic contributions from the tourism sector.

The Ministry of Tourism has announced a notable increase in tourism statistics for the initial five months of 2024, with a 9.1% rise in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) and a 22.52% growth in Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs). A press release revealed that in May 2024, FTAs reached 6.00 lakh, up from 5.98 lakh in May 2023, reflecting a growth of 0.3%.
Cumulatively, FTAs for January to May 2024 stood at 40.72 lakh, compared to 37.32 lakh in the same period of 2023. Foreign Exchange Earnings for May 2024 amounted to Rs 17,762 crores, compared to Rs 17,206 crores in May 2023, marking a growth of 3.23%.
From January to May 2024, FEEs totaled Rs. 1,08,362 crores, significantly higher than Rs. 88,441 crores in the same timeframe in 2023, indicating an impressive growth of 22.52%. Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat presented this data in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today, underscoring the positive trajectory of India's tourism sector.
