Indo-Bangladesh Train Services Suspended Amid Unrest

All train services between India and Bangladesh have been suspended indefinitely due to violent unrest in Bangladesh. Train operations, including Maitri Express, Bandhan Express, and Mitali Express, were halted mid-July, affecting both passenger and freight services. Bangladesh's political instability has led to further cancellations.

All train services between India and Bangladesh have been suspended indefinitely, Railway officials confirmed on Monday, following escalating unrest in the neighboring country.

The Railway Ministry stated that Maitri Express, Bandhan Express, and Mitali Express conducted their last runs in mid-July 2024 and have since been cancelled due to violent protests in Bangladesh.

Originally, both Maitri Express and Bandhan Express were cancelled from July 19 to August 6. However, due to the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, the suspension will continue indefinitely, affecting also the Mitali Express and freight operations.

Adding to the turmoil, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, while Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced an interim government amidst the massive protests.
