Renowned filmmaker, writer, and director Imtiaz Ali graced the campus of O.P. Jindal Global University on August 7, delivering an unprecedented commencement lecture titled 'Why Stories Matter' to the students of the Jindal School of Journalism and Communication. Highlighting the need to tell one's own stories and maintain individuality, Ali captivated the packed auditorium with his insights into storytelling and its historical significance for humanity.

Ali also inaugurated the newly constructed Film & Television Studio and Multimedia Lab, designed to offer students state-of-the-art production facilities. Addressing the audience, Ali stressed the importance of questioning societal narratives and the role stories play in shaping society. He cautioned against conforming to faceless commodification and underscored the transformative power of education in fostering critical thinking.

Welcoming the eighth cohort of BA (H) Journalism and Media Studies, the event saw participation from both faculty and students. Founding Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar hailed Ali as a visionary who redefined storytelling in Indian cinema, while Prof. Kishalay Bhattacharjee praised his ability to leave a lasting mark on the audience. The session concluded with a wide-ranging Q&A moderated by Professor Ambreen Khan, delving into Ali's creative process and journey.
