New Delhi [India], August 8: Jindal Steel & Power Limited has strategically diversified its coking coal sources to mitigate geographical risks and alleviate cost pressures. The initiative is in line with India's target to achieve 300 million tonnes of steel production by 2030, alongside the Steel Ministry's focus on coking coal diversification. New sources have been identified in Africa and Southeast Asia, enabling the company to reduce its dependency on Australian coking coal by more than 50%. This milestone marks a pioneering achievement in the Indian steel industry.

Commenting on this development, Pankaj Malhan, Executive Director of Jindal Steel Angul, expressed, "Diversifying our coking coal sources is crucial given global uncertainties and supply chain disruptions. The Steel Ministry's directive was both timely and essential. By diversifying away from Australian imports, we've fortified our supply chain and enhanced cost efficiency. The company's coke oven facilities have adeptly incorporated these varied coking coal sources, and further diversification plans are underway.
