Train travel between Mangaluru and Bengaluru ground to a halt Saturday due to landslides near Sakleshpur and Alur, officials reported. The landslide occurred at 12:30 am between Sakleshpur and Ballupete stations within the Mysuru Division.
South Western Railways confirmed that five train services have been impacted, stranding numerous passengers. Some Bengaluru-bound travelers resorted to walking to the main road to catch alternative transport. Food provisions were supplied to those who remained at the stations.
The impacted train services include Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru - Kannur Express, Train No. 16585 SMVT Bengaluru - Murdeshwar Express, Train No. 16586 Murdeshwar - SMVT Bengaluru Express, Train No. 16512 Kannur - KSR Bengaluru Express, and Train No. 16596 Karwar - KSR Bengaluru Panchaganga Super-Fast Express. Relief and rescue efforts have been launched with senior officials including General Manager Arvind Srivastava and Additional General Manager K S Jain overseeing the situation. Restoration is ongoing following a similar disruption caused by landslides on July 26.
