India's aviation sector is poised for significant growth, with around 72,900 new jobs anticipated by 2035, according to recent reports. The demand for skilled personnel such as pilots, aircraft service technicians, avionics technicians, safety managers, engineers, and ground staff is expected to surge, necessitating advanced training and revamped academic frameworks.
Jaideep Mirchandani, group Chairman of aviation major Sky One, highlighted the sector's booming trajectory. Major airlines are ordering new airplanes, and the government is focusing on constructing new airports and modernizing existing ones. "These expansion plans will create more job opportunities across major aviation segments," said Mirchandani. He stressed the importance of developing manpower through expert guidance, modern methods, and a supportive environment.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, noted that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued regulations under CAR-147 (Basic) to approve Basic Maintenance Training Organisations, aligning with international standards. A record number of 1,622 commercial pilot licenses were issued in 2023, including 292 for women. "These positive signs exemplify the government's commitment to addressing pilot shortages and improving training quality," Mirchandani added.
In May, the Airport Authority of India launched an internship program, 'Pradipti,' to nurture aviation interest among youth. This initiative aims to provide practical airport operation experience. "Such training will help job seekers explore diverse options in the aviation industry," Mirchandani said, urging industry stakeholders, educational institutions, and government bodies to synergize and meet the growing need for diverse skill sets in aviation.
